Media artist Yiou Wang explores the monstrous yet beautiful dreamscape of human transformation in a new visual translation of the DJ and musician Mercy Fang’s single “Zheng.” The music video echoes the mythical alterity in Mercy Fang’s song, which employs sounds of Chinese traditional instrument Gu Zheng. Inspired by the myth 画皮(“Hua Pi”), motion captured from María Cepeda, the “Zheng” music video depicts an abstract dancer who is multiplied in two phases: in between puppeteering and shedding their skin, and a canvas of fluid sand sculpted by their movement.
